Nigerian celebrities have voiced strong outrage and sorrow over the worsening insecurity in the country following two violent attacks in Kebbi and Kwara States this week.
On Sunday night, armed men invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before abducting several students.
Similarly, on Tuesday, gunmen stormed a church service in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting worshippers and leaving many injured.
The incidents have sparked nationwide condemnation, with prominent entertainers demanding urgent government action.
Comedian AY Makun described the situation as unbearable, warning that Nigeria is “turning into a crime scene.”
He lamented the frequency of killings and kidnappings across the country, questioning government silence in the face of rising attacks.
“Bandits storm churches to kill and abduct Christians. Children are kidnapped from schools. A Brigadier General is shot dead… Every day brings fresh chaos yet the government remains silent,” he wrote.
“Which way Nigeria? We need safety, accountability and real action.”
Actor Femi Adebayo also expressed distress after watching a livestream of the church attack in Kwara, particularly the footage of an elderly woman struggling to flee.
“These are human lives. Families, futures, dreams — real people,” he said.
“We need to step up our security measures. This cannot continue anywhere in our country.”
Actress Funke Akindele shared similar emotions, saying she was left in tears after seeing the viral video from the Kwara church.
“This is sad and disturbing,” she wrote. “I wept seeing that old woman who couldn’t walk well running for safety.”
Music producer Don Jazzy called for a tougher and more strategic response from security agencies, insisting that terrorism must not become a norm in Nigeria.
“The perpetrators deserve no mercy. There is an urgent need for our armed forces to eliminate every single one of these terrorists,” he said.
“Mr. President, please demand more accountability from your security chiefs. This needs to end now, sir.”
