Damagum to PDP Members: Betrayal Won’t Go Unpunished, Party Still Strong

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has sent a strong message to party members he accused of working against the party’s interest, warning that acts of treachery would not go unpunished.

Addressing the Forum of State PDP Chairmen in Abuja on Thursday, Damagum urged those sabotaging the PDP to “cast out the devil” influencing them and retrace their steps before it is too late.

“Some of our colleagues that the devil is using must see wisdom in casting the devil in them. Treachery, especially against an institution that has made you what you are today, will not heal,” he cautioned.

The PDP chairman reminded the erring members that their actions would eventually catch up with them, citing the law of karma. “You may be lucky now, but there is the law of karma. What goes around comes around,” he said.

Damagum, who has faced criticism from some quarters over his leadership, reaffirmed his faith in God, saying his calm approach should not be mistaken for weakness. “We exist because God exists. He will judge us by our behaviour. Sometimes, when I resort to God’s ways, people think it is a weakness,” he added.

Responding to claims that the PDP has lost relevance, Damagum maintained that the opposition party remains a major force in Nigeria’s political landscape. “People say the PDP is dead, but today in Nigeria, the story is still about the PDP. You don’t talk about something that doesn’t exist,” he noted.

He also warned the Federal Government against using intimidation to silence opposition voices, insisting that power is temporary. “We will not be intimidated by anyone who feels that because God has given him the opportunity, he can behave the way he likes. It is a temporary one,” he said.

According to him, the PDP remains committed to providing a credible alternative and steering the country toward justice and progress.
