Daura prepares to receive the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari as his burial is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda made the official announcement on Monday at the Umaru Musa Yaradua International Airport in Katsina, where he addressed the media on the state’s plans for the funeral.
According to Radda, the decision to lay the former president to rest in his ancestral home was made after consultations with his family and close associates in London, where he died on Sunday, July 13, following an undisclosed illness.
“The body will arrive Katsina by noon and the burial will be conducted in Daura at 2PM,” Governor Radda confirmed. He added that the event will be carried out with full respect to Islamic rites and security arrangements have already been reinforced across Katsina and Daura in anticipation of a large turnout.
The late president, who led Nigeria both as a military ruler in the 1980s and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, is remembered for his austere leadership style and unwavering stance on anti-corruption.
A host of dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps are expected to attend the funeral, turning Daura into a center of national reflection and farewell.
