Nigerian megastar Davido has pulled out of 50 Cent’s high-profile London concert, citing a lack of respect and unresolved issues with show organisers. Far from a publicity stunt or poor sales move, Davido says the decision is rooted in principle and a message that Africa and its culture must be treated with dignity.
In a bold and unexpected announcement made via Instagram Stories on Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Afrobeats icon revealed that he will no longer perform at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 3. The concert, part of 50 Cent’s “Legacy Tour,” was also set to feature R&B icon Mary J. Blige.
“Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales, there have been major misalignments regarding the event’s execution, particularly concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance,” Davido stated. “Unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved.”
Though he stopped short of naming specific problems, Davido made it clear this was not about turnout or money. Instead, it was a stand for professionalism, artistry, and cultural respect.
“My team and I have worked tirelessly in preparation, and I am incredibly grateful to the thousands of fans who purchased tickets in anticipation,” he said. “This decision is not a reflection of turnout or support; it is a matter of principle and respect for my craft, my fans, and the culture I represent.”
The concert is expected to go on without him, but the withdrawal of one of Africa’s biggest global ambassadors has sparked a wider conversation about how African artists are treated on international stages.
Davido also addressed his fan base directly, assuring them this was not the end of his summer tour. “London, I’ll see you guys soon, I promise! Rest of the shows this summer are still happening. 5ive is still alive! See you guys in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada and the US! Africa must be respected,” he signed off.
