The Nigeria Defence Headquarters has launched investogatiokn iinto the alleged six-year unjust incarceration of Seaman Abbas Haruna, a naval rating. The investigation was prompted by a circulating video clip and ordered by Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa
According to Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, “The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law.”
He assured Nigerians that the investigation will be speedy ,transparent and the result will be made public .
Seaman Abbas Haruna’s wife claims her husband was held in custody for over six years on the orders of a senior officer Human Rights Radio aired disturbing allegations of brutality and inhuman treatment by a superior officer
The military court-martial process ensures fairness, equal opportunity, and justice according to established military procedures and the law.
The DHQ urges the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information while the investigation is ongoing.
