The Director of FCT directorate of Road Traffic Services Dr Abdul Lateef Bello, the fct squadron leader and national coordinator of the Road traffic and vehicle inspection officers mayors Dr Yusuf John Suberu and other top officers of the directorate carried out general inspection of illegal car stands and parks across the city. The official inspection was to further enthrone part of the directorate’s mandate under the trade licences division that also empowers it to inspect car stands, parks and even spare park markets. There has been rising cases of illegal parks and car stands which itself constitutes nuisance to the city centre and the parks illegally operated endangers the security of passengers as no records of commercial vehicles operating there are known which sometimes results to the one chance syndrome. The VIO mayors have since existence volunteered on sundry traffic related issues which has made some of the drts responsibilities to be eased. The presence of FCT Squadron leader and national coordinator in the entourage could further boost volunteerism in the traffic sector. The enlarged VIO mayors could also form and contribute to the curbing of the menace of operation of illegal car stands as well as motor parks through the periodical volunteer intelligence gathering mechanism that could at intervals be shared and conveyed to the DRTS for action and enforcement.
