An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attached to the Lagos Division tragically collapsed and died on Sunday in Lagos. The officer, who hasn’t been identified yet, was not wearing his uniform at the time of the incident
According to a viral video circulating online the video shows sympathizers, including police officers, surrounding the lifeless body and searching the deceased officer’s bag. It was during this search that his identity card revealed he was an EFCC officer. A voice in the video confirmed, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, confirmed the officer’s death in a telephone conversation, stating that the incident occurred on Sunday and is currently under investigation.
This tragic incident occurs amidst a recent spate of violence against EFCC personnel. Just last week, on January 15, a suspected cybercrime suspect, Joshua Ikechukwu, allegedly shot and injured Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu of the EFCC during a raid in Anambra State.
