Amid resignation rumors, Augustine Eguavoen has reaffirmed his position as caretaker coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, dispelling claims that he had stepped down.
Following his return from Rwanda, where the team recently played a crucial AFCON qualifying match, Eguavoen set the record straight
He said, “Whatever people are reading out there is not correct, I am still in charge.”
“I am the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation, and it is my responsibility to manage the Super Eagles at this moment. That is where we stand.”
“I only mentioned that I would sit down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games to discuss our approach for the next matches.”
Eguavoen expressed frustration at how the misinformation had gained traction, especially at such a pivotal time for the national team, “It’s quite unfortunate that people are spreading incorrect stories. In our current situation, we don’t need negative reports.” He added.
