The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) is set to hold its 33rd Annual National Conference (ANC) and Annual General Meeting (AGM) from October 30 to November 1, 2024, in Victoria Island, Lagos State.
Tagged “EKO 2024,” the conference aims to address global environmental challenges and promote sustainable development in Nigeria.
The National President of NES, Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, announced the event in Abuja.
He said the conference theme is : “Environmental Resource Management, Conservation, and Protection in the Global Emerging Innovative Technology for Sustainable Development.”
The conference will feature technical sessions, subs-themes, and discussions on environmental sustainability challenges.
Dr Okobia disclosed that the conference will also discuss and proffer scientific and practical solutions to global, national, sub national and local environmental challenges.
He said that apart from the main theme of the conference there are other subs-themes that will be discussed to examine significant issues at the Technical Sessions with cut-crossing environmental sustainability challenges.
“The conference is aimed at examining realities, alignments and contradictions in the global action to limit environmental degradation and its implications for sustainable development in the global South”, he said.
Key speakers include Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Lagos State University Vice Chancellor Prof. Olarewaju Adigun Fagbohun, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, and Honourable Minister of Environment Balarabe Lawal Abbas.
As the largest environmental society in Sub-Saharan Africa, NES has over 30 chapters across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, promoting environmental protection, sustainable development, and professionalism.
