The Federal Government has successfully evacuated 1,230 stranded Nigerians from Niamey, Niger Republic, reaffirming its commitment to protecting citizens abroad.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, who confirmed the safe return of all evacuees.
The evacuation was carried out in two batches, with 708 Nigerians arriving on March 23, and another 522 on March 29, 2026.
The operation was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration, whose support ensured a smooth process.
On arrival in Kano, returnees were received by a multi-agency team including NEMA, NAPTIP, Immigration, NSCDC, and other key stakeholders.
They underwent profiling and were moved to the Immigration Training School in Kano, where they received food, medical care, and temporary shelter.
The ministry confirmed that all evacuees have now been safely discharged and reunited with their families after due process.
The Federal Government also commended Niger Republic and international partners for their cooperation, while urging Nigerians abroad to stay law abiding and maintain contact with Nigerian missions.
