The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen digital education by rolling out a nationwide teacher capacity development programme across all Federal Unity Colleges.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, who said the initiative followed the successful completion of a pilot phase in six Federal Unity Colleges representing the six geopolitical zones.
The initiative, expected to benefit about 11,700 teachers, is aimed at improving teachers’ digital competencies, lesson planning, classroom instruction and learning outcomes.
The programme was formally launched with the signing of the Terms of Reference by the Director of Education Support Services in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Gabriel O. Amudipe, in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Amudipe described the initiative as a strategic investment in teacher professionalism and the future of education.
He urged all stakeholders to uphold high implementation standards while ensuring effective monitoring and quality assurance during the nationwide rollout.
The programme is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Education Support Services Department in partnership with ICEDT Consult Limited.
It builds on the success of the pilot phase and is designed to equip teachers with the digital skills required to enhance classroom practice and prepare students for the demands of the 21st-century economy.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the initiative underscores its commitment to collaborating with strategic partners to modernise Nigeria’s education system and deliver inclusive, technology-driven and globally competitive education in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
