The Federal Government has launched the National Digital Farmers Registry (NDFR), a unified and secure digital agriculture platform designed to uniquely identify farmers and farmlands across the country, ensuring they receive targeted support, extension services, credit and insurance.
The initiative was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, at a workshop organised by the Ministry in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Heifer International.
According to the Minister, the NDFR represents a major step toward modernising Nigeria’s agricultural sector and strengthening data-driven planning.
“The NDFR will ensure that farmers and farmlands in Nigeria are uniquely identified, properly documented and effectively supported with extension services, credit and insurance.
“The unified platform will also support early warning systems, digital advisory tools and climate-smart planning,”Kyari said.
He explained that the launch of the digital registry aligns with the Federal Government’s broader goals of enhancing food security, boosting agricultural productivity and facilitating national economic renewal.
Senator Kyari added that the initiative is consistent with the Kampala Declaration on strengthening digital and data systems for agricultural transformation under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
