The Federal Government has scheduled Monday to meet with the Academic staff union of universities (ASUU) on Monday to address address the union’s concerns and avert a potential strike.
Recall that ASUU had issued a 21-day strike notice urging the Federal Government to resolve long-standing issues plaguing Nigerian universities.
In his response, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, disclosed this on a TVC program , saying the government had reviewed the letter and is ready to meet with ASUU leaders on Monday to discuss their demands.
He said, “We have already notified ASUU leadership to meet with us on Monday.
“On Wednesday, we reviewed the letter submitted by ASUU and the issues raised. We hope to engage with them on Monday to find a resolution.
“Some of these issues have deep historical roots, such as the 2009 agreement, which dates back to discussions from 1981. We’ve been in continuous dialogue with ASUU to resolve the challenges facing the university system.”
