The Federal Government has launched the Ladela Educational Institute a tuition-free vocational training hub aimed at transforming lives through hands-on education.
Unveiled during a press briefing in Abuja, the initiative targets youths between the ages of 18 and 35, particularly those with limited access to formal education or job opportunities.
The centre is fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and offers five practical, six-month courses in garment making, hospitality and catering, creative digital skills, social media management, and solar installation and maintenance.
Angela Ajala, Executive Director of Ladela Institute, described the project as a game-changer for national development and youth empowerment.
“Today marks a defining moment, not just for us as an institution, but for every young person with a dream and determination to build something with their hands,” she said. “We are proud to be building Nigeria one skilled hand at a time.”
What sets this programme apart is its all-inclusive design. Trainees will not only receive industry-grade instruction from professionals, but also earn a ₦22,500 monthly stipend to cover transportation and logistics. At the end of their training, graduates will be handed starter packs with essential tools and materials needed to launch their own ventures or transition into the job market.
Speaking on behalf of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Deputy Director Pauline Ajibili underscored the initiative’s nationwide reach. “This is a national initiative and it has already begun, with the registration portal currently open and placements underway,” Ajibili said.
Registration is currently open through the official NBTE portal. Applicants must have a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and fall within the age bracket of 18 to 35. Once registration closes, candidates will be assigned to centres nearest to them for ease of access.
Ajibili urged Nigerian youths not to miss the opportunity, stating that No young Nigerian should remain idle when opportunities like this exist. It’s time to rise and build.
