The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology has unveiled a new program, Energise Commercialisation, aimed at transforming Nigeria from a technology-importing nation into a technology-innovating nation.
The initiative will be championed nationwide by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Announcing the program during a visit to the First Lady at the State House, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, said the initiative is designed to strengthen the capabilities of Nigerian youths and women who have commercially viable inventions and innovations.
He explained that the program will identify, support, and promote grassroots inventors, ensuring their ideas are developed into market-ready solutions.
Dr. Udeh emphasized that sensitization has already begun and will be expanded across all states of the federation under the leadership of the First Lady.
“We will be going to schools at all levels, to the nooks and crannies of the states, to reach even the unlettered that have such inventions and innovations.
“We have the brains and we will be helping them achieve their goals. Nigeria cannot be left out of the world technology revolution,” he said.
The Minister noted that the First Lady’s role as champion of the program signals the government’s commitment to inclusiveness and grassroots engagement.
He stressed that the initiative will provide a platform for citizens to showcase innovations, receive mentorship, and access opportunities for commercialization.
The closed-door meeting with Senator Tinubu marked the formal start of the program, which targets youths and women as its primary beneficiaries.
The Ministry said the initiative underscores the administration’s resolve to energize Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem, boost local technology development, and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the global marketplace.
