In a bold move to fast-track Nigeria’s food security and agricultural transformation, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) has announced its readiness to partner with the Nigerian Agribusiness Group (NABG), promising a new era of public-private collaboration aimed at lifting millions out of poverty and repositioning agriculture as a driver of national prosperity.
During a recent courtesy visit by NABG, led by its President, Architect Kabiru Ibrahim, to the Minister’s office in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership.
“I am confident that our deliberations will open up new pathways for collaboration, innovation, and measurable impact in Nigeria’s food and agricultural ecosystem,” Kyari stated, noting that NABG plays a pivotal role in uniting the private sector to grow the nation’s agricultural economy.
He described the meeting as both “timely and strategic,” aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes job creation, poverty reduction, and nationwide food and nutrition security.
Senator Kyari commended NABG’s consistent efforts in amplifying private sector participation in policymaking and implementation. “Their work aligns with the country’s drive to reposition agriculture as a business rather than just a development sector,” he remarked.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, CON, declared agriculture as the future of Nigeria. He urged NABG to continue engaging all levels of government to shape policies and regulatory frameworks that enable sustainable, inclusive growth.
NABG President, Arch Kabiru Ibrahim, highlighted the group’s commitment to shifting Nigeria’s economic focus from oil dependency to agricultural industrialization.
The visit was capped with a symbolic exchange of goodwill as NABG presented souvenirs to the Ministers, marking the beginning of what promises to be a transformative partnership.
