The National Coordinator/FCT Squadron Leader RTO/VIO MAYORS Dr. Yusuf John Suberu has said bicycle riding is wrong alternative to fuel subsidy removal.
He said the various suggestions by individuals and groups that bicycles should be used as alternative means of transportation as a result of fuel subsidy removal in order to ease transportation can lead to accident.
According to Suberu poor infrastructure and routes could lead to more casualties and accident.
While addressing the dangers of bicycle riding, the National Coordinator said before ElRufai banned Okada in Abuja, many hospitals recorded high rates of Accident during that period.
“Talk more of bicycle that is even more lighter and smaller. Were there to be infrastructural provision for it, it would have gone a long way.
“Even the present state of roads is causing accidents due to recklessness, when bicycles are allowed to ply, then it is going to be worst.
“A former Minister under Obasanjo, Chief Ojo Maduekwe once tried it but got hit by a moving vehicle”.
What do you now expect when ordinary people start to use it?
It is my advise that such motives should be shelved,” he added.
He urged the safety agencies, police and the lawmakers to discourage Nigerians from using bicycle as a means of transportation.
“All that is expected is for the government to provide buses, parliatives and incentives,” he added.
