The Global Information Team (GIT) has called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest those responsible for the killings that occurred during the recently concluded Osun local government elections in Ilesa East and West.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Anabel Crown, the Head of Investigation for GIT, who observed the elections, criticized the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for failing to take action against those who gunned down voters and members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on election day.
Anabel, a neutral observer, alleged that certain top figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) were using their influence to shield their “killer squads” responsible for the violence. She insisted that the perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted, stressing that politics should not be a “do or die” affair.
The GIT urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene as a democrat by directing the IGP and NSA to ensure that those behind the killings are brought to justice.
Contrary to earlier claims, Anabel Crown stated that it was APC thugs who unleashed terror on PDP supporters, openly engaging in shooting and killing. The GIT insists that these violent elements must be held accountable without delay.
Hon. Sanya Omirin, the representative of Ijesa South Federal Constituency, in a statement expressed his condolences over the tragic loss of his aide, Hon. Adebayo Kasali, along with Ifeoluwa Ajilore and Ismail Ibrahim, who were allegedly brutally murdered by APC thugs.
He said: “My heartfelt condolences go out to their families, friends, and the entire PDP family in ijesa South.
“This senseless act of violence is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers that come from the leaders of the opposition party in Osun State, I pray that the families of the victims find the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May their loved ones rest in peace.
“I urge the Inspector General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to take immediate action and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. It’s imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions, and that the law is upheld to prevent future reoccurrence.
“I call on all stakeholders, including the government, security agencies, and civil society organizations, to join hands in condemning this act of violence and working towards a more peaceful and tolerant society.
“I also urge my constituents and the entire PDP family in Ijesa South and Osun State in general to remain calm and law-abiding, even in the face of this provocation. Let us not allow the agents of violence to succeed in their quest to disrupt the peace and stability of our state.”
