Suspected gunmen have abducted Mrs. Olaide John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The family confirmed the incident on Wednesday, revealing that the victims were kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school in the Oyo State capital.
In a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, the family disclosed that security agencies had already launched rescue efforts and commenced investigations into the abduction.
“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement said.
Mrs. John-Paul, reportedly retired voluntarily from First Bank Pension Custodian in 2025 before relocating to Ibadan with her children.
Expressing concern over the incident, the family appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardize ongoing rescue operations.
“We are deeply distressed by this unfortunate incident, but remain hopeful that the victims will be rescued safely. We appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation and support ongoing efforts with prayers,” the statement added.
The family also urged anyone with credible information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators to share such intelligence through appropriate channels.
It assured the public of its continued cooperation with law enforcement authorities and pledged to provide updates as investigations and rescue efforts progress.
