In a bold move to address the rising tide of drug abuse among Nigerian youths, Hon. Ibrahim Adenekan, Councilor representing Ward C2 in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government, has teamed up with NGO Life Invested For Transformation In Every Dimension (LIFTED) to host a seminar marking both Nigeria’s Independence Day and World Mental Health Day.
As part of ongoing efforts to combat the scourge of drug abuse and promote youth mental well-being, Hon. Ibrahim Adenekan, popularly known as Phylum, in collaboration with LIFTED, has announced a seminar themed “Drug Abuse: Its Effects and Solutions.”
The seminar is set to combine education, sensitization, and practical solutions in a bid to reshape young minds and build a drug-free community.
The event will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2025, at the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Secretariat, located on College Road, Idiagbon.
Hon. Adenekan said during a press briefing.
“Drug abuse has become a cankerworm in our society, and we need to address it with full force,”
“Many youths engage in it without truly knowing the dangers and aftermath of such acts. This is why we have decided to bring them together, enlighten them, and redirect their minds through this seminar.”
According to him, the initiative is not only in line with his legislative mandate but also a personal commitment to societal reorientation and youth empowerment.
Highlighting the importance of the programme, Adenekan stated that the seminar will delve into the health, social, and psychological implications of substance abuse. More importantly, it will offer practical strategies for prevention and recovery, encouraging youths to choose healthy alternatives.
Supporting the initiative, Mrs. Francesca Nsume Okonkwo, CEO of LIFTED, emphasized that the seminar would feature expert-led discussions and interactive sessions designed to connect with young participants on a personal level.
“This programme is an opportunity for youths to gain knowledge that will transform their lives positively. I urge them to participate fully because there is so much to learn and benefit from,” Okonkwo remarked.

She added that experienced psychologists, health professionals, and former addicts turned advocates will be present to offer real-life perspectives and workable solutions.
As Nigeria celebrates her Independence Day and marks World Mental Health Day, this event seeks to serve as a symbol of hope and responsibility reminding the nation that freedom must also extend to freedom from addiction and mental enslavement.
The event is expected to draw participants from schools, community youth groups, religious organizations, and local residents, with the hope of creating a ripple effect that spreads across Lagos State and beyond.
