Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13 in London.
In a condolence message shared via his official X account, Prime Minister Modi recalled his personal encounters with the late Buhari, describing him as a wise and warm leader who was committed to strengthening ties between India and Nigeria.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of former President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari,” Modi stated. “I fondly recall our meetings and conversations on various occasions. His wisdom, warmth, and unwavering commitment to India–Nigeria friendship stood out.”
He added, “I join the 1.4 billion people of India in extending our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people and the government of Nigeria.”
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, died in London after a brief illness, according to sources close to the family.
