Kekere-Ekun Pledges Stringent Judicial Appointments

As the Senate confirmed the appointment of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria after screening, she has vowed that appointment of Judicial officers will be stringently done.

Kekere-Ekun stated this during her appearance before the Senate on Wednesday for screening and confirmation as the substantial CJN.

Her confirmation follows president Bola Tinubu letter to the Senate on Tuesday, seeking her confirmation as the CJN.

Justice Kekere-Ekun vowed to uphold the integrity of the judiciary, emphasizing her commitment to zero tolerance for corruption, ensuring the judiciary’s credibility and trustworthiness.

She said: “I am known for integrity and discipline, I will ensure zero tolerance for corruption.

“There is a need to insulate the judiciary, push for better welfare for judicial officers to ensure they perform at their optimal. Appointment of Judicial officers will also be stringently done.”

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, emphasized the need to strengthen the nation’s independence by enhancing its laws. She also highlighted the importance of limiting the number of cases presented to the Supreme Court, suggesting that pre-election cases should terminate at the Court of Appeal.
