The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, has described the late Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh as a man whose life embodied honesty, humility, and an unyielding commitment to national development.
During a condolence visit to Ogbeh’s family at their Aso Drive residence in Abuja on Monday, Kyari recalled the former minister’s towering influence, both in governance and as a mentor.
“When I assumed office as Minister, my first visit was to Chief Ogbeh’s home to see what i can grab from him because he was full of intellect, wisdom and someone you will enjoy sitting with to discuss about life and nationhood,” Kyari revealed
Ogbeh, who passed away at the age of 78, served Nigeria in multiple ministerial capacities from Communications to Steel Development in the Second Republic and later as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. He also held the position of National Party Chairman, earning a reputation for transparency, forthrightness, and integrity.
Kyari, speaking on behalf of the Ministry, noted: “We are going to miss him and we are here to align with you and the family, you are not alone in this grief, we join you and share your grief and we pray that may his soul rest in peace.”
Permanent Secretary Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi echoed the sentiments, praising Ogbeh’s enduring impact on the Ministry’s programmes and projects.
In her response, Mrs. Justina Obehi Ogbeh, the widow of the late statesman, expressed gratitude to the Minister and the Ministry’s leadership for their solidarity and support during the family’s time of grief.
Chief Audu Ogbeh leaves behind a legacy of service, vision, and integrity a standard many say will continue to inspire future leaders.
