The Oodua Integrity Group has faulted a report by a popular online medium that one Uju Ezeobi has died in police custody over a purported land grab issue.
Recall, Sahara Reporters on March 29th, had published a story of one Mrs. Uju Ezeobi, a complainant of a multi-million-naira land scam involving one Mrs Nkiruka Duru, and how she was allegedl tortured to death while in custody at Nigeria Police Zonal Headquarters (Zone 13), Ukpo, Anambra State.
Reacting in a statement issued on Monday, by the group’s Head of Investigation, Olatunji Olawale described the report as a wrong impression, embarrassment and misinformation.
The group said it is in the clear picture of the case and has strongly come to present facts of the matter.
“In the first place Uju Ezeoba claimed by Sahara reporters to have died initially presented herself
as a lawyer to Mrs Duru of the united business women association in a land related controversy reported to the police.
It was during the course of the case that Mrs Duru realized that Uju Ezeoba was not a lawyer as claimed due to incompetency displayed which made Mrs Duru to disengage Uju.
“Which mortuary is Uju Ezeoba’s corpse? How come there is no police statement to that effect? How come the picture of her corpse was not published by the medium? He asked.”
The group called on the medium to desist from smearing the reputation of Mrs Duru and, therefore, demanded an immediate retraction of the story. It, therefore, called on the general public to disregard the report.
