The Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) and BTL Medical Technologies have partnered to expand access to modern rehabilitation technologies and strengthen physiotherapy practice in Nigeria.
The partnership was announced during a scientific luncheon held in Abuja under the theme, “Synergistic Rehabilitation: Combining Advanced Energy Modalities for Accelerated Healing.”
The event brought together physiotherapists, healthcare leaders, academics, rehabilitation professionals and industry stakeholders to discuss the integration of advanced technologies into clinical practice.
Speaking at the event, the Registrar of MRTB, Prof. Yusuf Rufai, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to continuous professional development and called for stronger collaboration among regulators, clinicians, healthcare institutions and technology providers.
He stressed the need for practical training across the country to equip rehabilitation professionals with the skills required to use modern technologies safely and effectively.
Participants identified the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice as a major challenge, noting that while advanced treatment modalities are taught in schools, opportunities for structured hands on training remain limited.
They agreed that technology should complement sound clinical judgment rather than replace it.
As part of the partnership, MRTB and BTL said they would work to expand access to advanced rehabilitation equipment through collaboration with hospitals and rehabilitation centres.
The initiative will also explore preferential pricing models to reduce the cost of acquiring modern physiotherapy technologies.
The partnership will further support scientific meetings, workshops and practical training programmes to promote evidence based rehabilitation practice and improve competence in the use of advanced equipment.
Representatives of BTL said the company remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s rehabilitation sector through education, technology transfer and partnerships with healthcare institutions to improve access to internationally recognised rehabilitation technologies.
The event concluded with live demonstrations of advanced rehabilitation equipment, giving participants practical exposure to technologies widely used in rehabilitation centres globally.
