The Chief Medical Director of National Hospital, Dr Muhammad Raji Mahmud, has expressed it’s commitment towards improving health care delivery in National hospital.
Speaking on Tuesday, at the House Committee Health Institution’s Oversight Visit to the National Hospital, Mamud said the hospital is doing their best to ensure that Nigerians receive proper health care.
The CMD also reiterated that the hospital do not reject any staff, or any citizen in terms of access to health care services.
Dr. Muhammad said, “It’s an honour for us to receive you here today, to our esteemed hospital, and for you to see for yourself what we are doing at the moment.
“We here at the hospital have seen alot of changes over the years from the time when things are very good, and Rosy to the time now that things are a bit tough and hard.
‘But despite that the staff and management of national hospital are doing thier best to ensure the best health care that Nigeriana can receive.
“Like I have stressed during the visitations while we where working, we do not reject any staff, any citizen of Nigeria”, he said.
Mamud also commended the house of representatives for their wonderful relationship.
“With you people here I can see the zeal and the energy to assist us we look forward to a very wonderful relationship with the house of representatives the national hospital has always had we would like to continue with that beautiful relationship
“I am sure with the caliber of people here today you will assist us to achieve what we have been mandated to achieve, to give the best services to the Nigerian citizens.”
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Committee of house of representatives on health, Amos Gwamna Magaji expressed his sadness towards the high rate of medical tourism in the country stating that there is need for government to improve the health care facilities in the country so as to stop citizens from going abroad to seek medical care.
Magaji who represented Zango Kataf to Jaba Federal Constituency in Kaduna State said,, “Health care delivery in Nigeria, it has come to a point whereby in this 10th assembly in my inaugural speech one of the real or the cardinal point I made mention was the issue of medical tourism, we must and we must do everything to reverse the trend.
“We must get people to start coming from different parts of the world and reduce the number of Nigerians let it be that Nigerians go to seek medical intervention abroad by choice.
“We have to wake up because you and I, everyone seated here, whether you are a medical personnel or you are not a medical personnel, when you are sick you need someone to treat you and then we will be glad to have our hospital functional.
“We would be glad to have our systems working we will be glad to have others begin to come to Nigeria for treatment.
“If there is anything you think would help the hospital to grow faster to move and better position to deliver it’s mandate, please always feel free to call on us.Lets rub heads together and see what we can do so that we would be able to deliver”, he said.
