The Society of Project Management and Development Professionals has launched a national sensitization campaign to promote project management practices across Nigeria.
The campaign, which aims to create awareness and drive adoption of project management principles, was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by top government officials, industry experts, and stakeholders.
The Registrar of the Society of Project Management and Development Professionals, Dr Ayodele Edwards emphasized the importance of project management in driving national development.
“Project management is a vital tool for global and national development. It can reduce waste, improve efficiency, and create value for the economy.”
Dr. Edwards highlighted the society’s achievements, including the establishment of a functioning board, national officers, and global chapters.
“Our message is for Nigerians to embrace project management and adopt it in their daily lives. It will lead to productivity and effectiveness in the workplace and national development.”
Speaking about their achievements, Edwards disclosed that the body now have a functioning board.
“Now, the milestone achievement for us is that we now have a functioning board. We have national officers across the country. We have contacts in geopolitical locations, which we believe has now positioned us better to be able to take this message of project management across Nigeria”.
Edward urged Nigerians to embrace the practice of project management.
“Our message is that Nigerians should embrace the practice of project management and adopt it in their way of life because it’s going to lead to productivity, either in the workplace or in terms of national development”.
The Executive Chairman of Chinese Africa Investment Ltd, Dr Chukwu Tony Chime stressed the need for project management professionals to be involved in policy-making and decision-making processes.
“Most projects in Nigeria are abandoned due to lack of project management expertise. We need to sensitize the government and the public on the importance of project management.”
“It is very vital that whenever we are taking decisions or making policies, project management professionals should be included so that we can be able to sustain our projects and then execute them properly”.
The Chairman of the Government Board of the Society for Project Management International, Mac John Nwaobiala emphasized the all-encompassing nature of project management.
“It affects our lives, workplaces, communities, and the country as a whole. We want to build a solid base of professionals who will disseminate project management tenets and ensure their adoption nationwide.”
The campaign aims to promote project management practices across Nigeria, reduce abandoned projects, and improve national development.
