As part of effort to end drug traffickers in Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an Ibadan-based businesswoman, Adewunmi Dorcas, and an auto parts dealer, Arinze Ora.
The NDLEA Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this saying, “We will not relent in our efforts to dismantle and disrupt the networks of drug traffickers operating in Nigeria.”
According to the NDLEA, on September 6, 2024, officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s export shed intercepted a cargo bound for the UK, containing 924 bottles of codeine-based syrup weighing 135.70kg and 5,250 tablets of Rohypnol hidden in foodstuffs.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Adewunmi Akeem Temitope and his mother, 58-year-old Mrs. Adewunmi Adebola Dorcas, who allegedly sent the consignment from Ibadan.
The freight agent, Owojori Olanrewaju Sunday, confessed to working for Mrs. Dorcas, receiving N2,411,000 for the job.In another operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted cartons of auto spare parts and Checker powder custard destined for Congo Brazzaville, discovering 300 grams of cocaine concealed within.
The sender, Arinze Ora, was subsequently arrested.The NDLEA also discovered 350,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup in two containers shipped from India.These arrests and seizures demonstrate the NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and disrupting supply chains.
The NDLEA noted it efforts will continue to yield significant results, disrupting the supply chain and bringing perpetrators to justice.
