The Nigeria Data Protection Commission ( NDPC) has presented Certificate of license to the Institute of Information Management(IIM), authorising them to conduct examination and certify aspiring data protection professionals in Nigeria.
NDPC has also approved the Institute of Information Management as a certification body for digital protection policy with two years license.
The National Commissioner Dr Vincent Olatunji made the disclosure while presenting the certificate of license to IIM in Abuja.
He noted that with the new development data professionals in the country will be able to compete with their counterpart in any part of the world.
” We want to bridge the gap in the data processing sector.With this initiative, we will be saving a lot of money that Nigerians will have used for foreign data certifications.Many people cannot afford the exorbitant cost of paying for data certification abroad.
“We know the eco system and have been able to forsee some of this challenges. With this development, we will be able to track the impact and progress of data processors in the country”, he said.

The Director General while speaking of the rigorous screening process that the IIM team went through before the final decision, noted that their track record set them apart from other applicants.
“We had an independent evaluation team, and IIM got the highest mark. We have been working with them since 2022, and we are sure that their track record brought them out to the limelight “, he said.
The Chairman Governing Council, Institute of Information Management,Amb Dr, Oyedokun Oyewole, commended NDPC for maintaining high level of professionalism in delivering its task.
He charged other government agencies to take a cue and learn from the data commission.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on other government agencies in Nigeria to borrow a leaf from way and manner NDPC carry out their activity. I think if other agencies can embrace this kind of attitude, this kind of processes, Nigeria will continue to evolve as number 1 in Africa”, he said.
