In a bid to boost Nigeria’s readiness for future emergencies, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has developed a draft Operational Plan for 2025 following a two-day strategic session in abuja.
The high-level workshop, held from june 10 to 11, brought together key stakeholders from across the country’s emergency management sector, including senior officials, zonal coordinators, technical experts, and humanitarian partners.
In a statement released on friday, NEMA said the strategic session was designed to assess current response capacities, identify gaps, and set clear priorities for the coming year. the agency stressed that the goal is to ensure a more coordinated, efficient, and proactive approach to disaster management nationwide.
According to the statement, “During the sessions, participants reviewed the performance of the 2024 plan, analysed data from past emergency interventions, and engaged in group discussions to outline strategies for improving coordination, logistics, early warning systems, and community-based disaster risk reduction.”
Addressing the gathering, NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, underscored the agency’s commitment to building national resilience through strategic planning and stronger multi-agency collaboration. she emphasised that timely, inclusive, and well-coordinated responses will be central to nema’s operations in 2025.
The draft plan developed during the session incorporates input from all participants and is expected to serve as a practical roadmap for the agency’s engagements in the new year. key priorities include capacity building, stakeholder partnerships, and ensuring rapid deployment to disaster scenes across the country.
