The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government. The announcement was conveyed through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urging them to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. He emphasized that these values are essential for fostering unity and progress within the nation.
“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the Minister stated.
He also called upon Nigerians of all faiths to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, while supporting government efforts toward national harmony and sustainable development.
The Federal Government encourages all citizens to observe the holiday in a manner that promotes unity and reflects the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.
