The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has upgraded its passport tracking system with a new status feature that notifies applicants when their passports are ready for collection.
The update, tagged “PRODUCED (Passport Produced, Ready for Collection),” is designed to keep applicants better informed about the progress of their passport applications.
According to the Service, the improvement became necessary after hundreds of completed passports were left uncollected, resulting in a growing number of complaints from applicants.
In a statement, the NIS said the update enhances the existing tracking platform by providing timely information on passports that have been produced and are awaiting physical collection, as well as those produced but yet to be delivered via courier.
“The update enhances the existing tracking system and helps applicants stay informed about timelines for passports produced and awaiting collection (for physical collection) or produced but not delivered (for courier delivery),” the statement read.
The Service added that it remains committed to delivering an efficient and responsive passport processing system in line with global best practices.
