NIMET predicts reduced visibility across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has released a forecast on Thursday, stating that, there will be moderate dust haze with reduced visibility and localised thunderstorms across the country on Friday.

NiMet said in a report on Thursday in Abuja that over the northern region and North-Central states, the forecast includes a horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km, posing potential risks for road and air travel.

“The agency explained the necessity for precautions in light of the suspended dust particles.On Friday 12th Moderate Dust Haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km over the Northern region and the North Central states throughout the forecast period.

“Patches of clouds in the hazy atmosphere are expected in the morning hours over the inland cities of the South and the coastal states with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states in the afternoon/evening periods”.

NIMET emphasized on the need for proactive measures among airline operators.

“We want them to stay updated with the latest weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective operational planning.
We want people with asthma and other respiratory issues to exercise caution and limit outdoor exposure due to the present weather conditions.”
