The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has unveiled and commissioned a state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, in Abuja.
The Director General of the Scheme, Brigadier General Yushu’a Ahmed said ICT is critical to National Development in the 21st century.
Brig. Gen. Yushua’a Ahmed said the NYSC program has become a critical part of the national development process.
“Most organisations and corporate entities have been transiting their processes and procedures from analogue to digital platforms to promote the delivery of excellence, fast, efficient, world-class services with minimal errors and less human interference.
” The vision of the scheme is to become the leading light of youth organisations in Africa. The youth in the behavioural segment of the national demography under the management of the scheme has over the years been championing the use of ICT in bringing about a more efficient society.
“The NYSC program has since become an integral part of the country’s national development strategy, providing a platform for ICT graduate youth to gain practical work experience, and contribute to the development of their host communities”, he said.
He added that the introduction of ICT in its operations has become inevitable and an essential tool for the smooth running of all areas of corp administration.
A Former Head of State and Founder of the National Youth Service Corp, His Excellency, General Dr. Yakubu Gowon, who commissioned the ICT building, implored youths to pay attention to vocational training and skills acquisition.
While stating that it is the best avenue to
become financially independent.
In his words he stated; “May I appeal to youths, to pay serious attention to vocational training and skill acquisition as it is the best avenue to become financially independent instead of searching for the non-available pay jobs.
“The digitization of the NYSC
The mobilisation process since 2014 is another attestation to the improvement of the scheme operations, which has made the registration of prospective corps members from any part of the globe a seamless exercise.
“The monthly clearance for corps members and other numerous ICT-related activities on the NYSC NIS platform is worthy of commendation. I do not doubt that this ultra-modern ICT centre that will be commissioned today would be a major boost in this regard, ” he said.
He also pleaded with the government to ensure that the NYSC orientation camp is conducive for corps members.
” May I at this junction appeal to all Nigerians, cooperate organisations Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government, philanthropists, Religious organisations, and other stakeholders to provide every necessary support for the National Youth Service Corps, to enable it to consolidate on the success recorded in the last fifty years”, he added.
The Chairman of, the NYSC National Governing Board, Ambassador Fatima Balls Abubakar said the scheme has paid a critical role in promoting unity and discipline in the country.
” The National Youth Service Corps has remained a symbol of national Integration and a platform for building bridges across cultural divides. It remains the African oldest and leading light of youth mobilization.
“The scheme has impacted the youth, the tradition of being industrious and promoting entrepreneurship skills.
It has continued to stand tall as an enduring platform of national cohesion and development.
” I commend the steadfastness of the successive batches of corp members and managers of the scheme, in the pursuit of its mandates.
it is gratifying to note the strives of the scheme towards enhancing operational efficiency through the application”, the chairman said.
