The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called for a collective effort in the search for Yahaya Farouk, a corps member who went missing in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area, Rivers State.
During a visit to the community on Tuesday, Ahmed urged local residents—both youths and elders—to cooperate with security agencies in the ongoing search for the missing corps member. He also inspected the site where Farouk was last seen and underscored the role of host communities in ensuring the safety of corps members serving in their areas.
He emphasized that the safety and welfare of corps members should be a shared responsibility between the NYSC and the host communities, urging residents to take an active role in ensuring the well-being of those serving in their locality.
He said, “The essence of my coming is to appeal to assist us in getting the corps member, who came for national service from another state.
“My administration will continue to appeal for adequate security and welfare of Corps members at all times. It is also the responsibility of residents of Corps members’ host communities to provide security and welfare package for corps members serving in their domain.”
At a meeting held during the visit, local leaders, including the Youth President, Etete Jerb Anthony, and the Ward Secretary, Paul Friday, reported that the community had been working diligently to locate Farouk. The corps member, who had been at a Chinese mining company in the area, disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
The community leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the search and rescue operations until Farouk is found.
