The Commissioner for Health Ogun state, Dr Tomi Coker, said the state government is set to improve maternal mortality among women.
While stating that there have been constant efforts to improve the healthcare service delivery in the state.
The Commissioner stated this at the presentation of certificates to the trainees of the Mobile Sonographic Technicians at the Ministry of Health, Abeokuta.
According to the Commissioner, they will ensure the well-being and wellness of pregnant women by ensuring that none of them dies in the process of childbirth.
“We are trying to get a system and a standard that will go beyond the present generation. We have taken a step to think about the pregnant women in rural areas who do not have access to private hospitals that can provide ultrasound services. We take the service to her and to enable us to know if there is a problem, so that we can plan towards addressing it appropriately and ensure that mother and child are safe”.
He urged the health workers to take full advantage of the government’s gesture by using the skills acquired for the benefit of pregnant women in the State.
” We are assuring the present administration to remain committed to enhancing the health system and continue to invest in infrastructural development, as well as ensure the welfare of its workers to make quality care available to all”, he said.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Kayode Oladeinde said the initiative is meant to provide basic ultrasound service to pregnant women at the PHC level.
He urged the Technicians to discharge their duties with the utmost responsibility to the benefit of the people.
