In a strategic move to modernize public service delivery, the Oyo State Government has trained 80 officers across various cadres equipping them with skills in procurement, digital tools, and artificial intelligence to boost governance efficiency.
The State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Salihu Adelabu, disclosed this during a one-day capacity-building session held at the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre in Ibadan on Thursday, the officers trained were drawn from clerical, secretarial, assistant, procurement, and store cadres.
Adelabu emphasized the government’s commitment to reviving the center to meet the demands of 21st-century governance.
“This training is a step towards equipping civil and public servants with the skills needed for effective and modern governance,” he said.
He noted that the initiative marks the beginning of a wider program aimed at covering all service cadres in the state.
“Clerical officers must understand the shift from conventional systems to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Without training, lapses are inevitable ,we choose to empower, not blame,” Adelabu added.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Taiwo Mustapha, encouraged participants to remain committed despite global economic constraints.
“You can stand out through motivation, dedication, and embracing ICT and AI tools those are the keys to leadership in today’s public service,” he said.
Ajayi Oluropo, speaking on behalf of participants, praised the Makinde administration for prioritizing workforce development.
He described the training as “timely and vital for boosting professional competence and public sector productivity.”
