President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate and comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s national security strategies in response to the rising violence in parts of the country.
The directive comes amid growing concerns over the persistent attacks and loss of lives in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states.
The President’s directive was conveyed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
During a high-level security meeting held at the State House in Abuja, which lasted over two hours, President Tinubu met with top security chiefs and emphasized the urgency of the situation. He demanded swift and decisive action to halt the killings and restore peace in the affected regions.
“Enough is enough,” the President stated firmly, condemning the continued targeting of innocent civilians and calling for immediate measures to protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, informed journalists that the service chiefs had provided President Tinubu with detailed briefings on the recent attacks in affected states, including casualty figures and the extent of property destruction.
Ribadu disclosed that the President has directed the adoption of a new strategy to address the ongoing security challenges more effectively.
He emphasized that efforts are underway to restore peace and security across the country. He noted that the meeting with President Tinubu included key stakeholders, including the armed forces, police, and members of the intelligence community.
The NSA said the attackers usually target innocent citizens by planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and targeting ungoverned areas.
