President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their coordinated efforts that led to the rescue of 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Maga Kebbi last Monday.
The President gave the commendation on Tuesday while receiving the freed girls, expressing relief that all those kidnapped from the school had been accounted for.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged security operatives to intensify efforts to ensure the safe return of other victims still in captivity across the country.
“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must put, as a matter of urgency, more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this,” the President said.
The girls were abducted at dawn on November 17, shortly after a military detachment reportedly departed the school premises.
The Kebbi incident sparked a wave of copycat abductions in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri in Niger State.
However, all 38 victims kidnapped in Eruku were released on Sunday. On the same day, the Niger State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) confirmed that 50 missing students from a Catholic school in Niger had been found in their parents’ homes.
