The Federal Ministry of Education has urged students to stay on campus and avoid participating in the planned nationwide protest for safety reasons.

As a result of the economic hardship in the country, a planned nationwide protest is scheduled to begin on August 1 to 10.

On Monday, the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Chris Maiyak in a circular, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, instructed Vice Chancellors to take immediate measures to ensure the wellbeing of students, staffs, and university property during the protest.

The circular titled: “Urgent arrangements for the security and safety of University staff, students and property during the proposed nationwide protests.”

The circular read: “The Federal Government is not unaware of the right of any Nigerian to peaceful protest but is concerned about the safety of staff, students, and university property should there be any protest action.”
