Recently, the two energetic Ministers of works and state respectively drew my attention as they prioritise road rehabilitation and construction as well as completion.
Last week, the Honourable Minister of State for Works Bello Muhammad Goronyo alongside the Kebbi state Governors did the ground breaking ceremony for a super highway that will terminate in Kebbi. This week also the Zaria Gusau Sokoto roads are on top gear on rehabilitation and according to the state minister of works Goronyo to be completed soonest. The benefits of this roads are going to be both economical and security. Take the Zaria,Funtua roads for instance,the dilapidated nature made the bandits to have a free day same way with the Funtua Sheme,Tsafe and Kotorkoshi roads where the Bello Turji boys have been having a free day due to the nature of the roads. Be it as it may,if the assurances of the federal government through hon Bello Goronyo are to go by,then a sigh of relief has come. In a way,dividends of benefits of subsidy removal is yielding results in area of road infrastructure. Sometimes the material and kind of persons occupying a ministry matters because from all indications both Engr Dave Umahi and Bello Goronyo seems to know what they are doing. I will not conclude this piece without drawing the attention of the two ministers to the dilapidated nature of some North Central roads like the Kainji Kaiama kosubosu federal roads abandoned for long. The last time liberty TV interviewed me on the state of the roads,the Kwara state governor hurriedly visited the minister of works to discuss the matter but till date,no single bulldozer is working on any of the roads which goes to say it remains an abandoned project even though said to have been awarded. Recently a member of the Kwara state house of Assembly hon Halidu Danbaba comprehended a formal letter to the works minister on state of the roads. If at all the works ministry is not aware,the mentioned roads have economic benefits to Nigeria as a whole ranging from Agricultural produce to power generation and wildlife as well as border areas where revenues are collected. There is the need to review the scope of contract awarded to that effect and if possible sanction the contractors if at all the contracts were awarded as being insinuated.
