SafeHost International Academy in collaboration with SafeHost International Initiative held its cultural day celebration with the theme “Abuja my City”.
The event is part of activity to celebrate culture, unity and diversity of the tribes under the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory. The students showcased series of activities such as cultural dance, storytelling, and display of cultural foods.
The Executive Director, SafeHost International Academy, Mrs. Ngozi Joy Belolisa, said the cultural day celebration is an opportunity to showcase the students remarkable talent
“This program is about building knowledge, confidence, and appreciation for our country through the various tribes we have in the Federal Capital Territory.
” Over recent weeks, the children had delved into Abuja’s beauty, history, and unique essence spotlighting the nation’s capital through songs, art, drama, and presentations highlighting its landmarks, people, and lifestyle.”
The Executive Director highlighted that the cultural day is about building knowledge, confidence, and appreciation for the country.
She appreciated the teachers who worked tirelessly to prepare the children for the activity, and the parents for their continuous support, encouragement, and partnership.
In the same vein, she said SafeHost International Academy has been leading a quiet revolution in the aspect of inclusive education.
“We educate parents about disabilities and encourage them to let their children play with others who have disabilities, as it is not contagious. We are fostering spaces where every child belongs, learns, and plays without fear.
According to her, statistically, 75% of children in every class have one challenge or another, only 25% do not have disability challenge.
“The first 50% grapple with learning disabilities like dyslexia,while the last may need support throughout their lives.”
A student of SafeHost International Academy, Adorable Alukwu, disclosed that the cultural day celebration has made her acquainted with different tribes and cultures.
“Through the cultural day celebration, we have been able to know that Abuja has diverse cultures and different food. I also learnt their method of dancing and dressing”.
A Parent, Gloria Nwachinemelu, emphasized that the cultural day celebration is an enlightening session for the students.
“The event is very significant and impacting the lives of the children. It gives them a sense of belonging.’
She urged other schools to engage in such activities that will promote culture and diversity.
