In a chilling turn of event, a security guard at Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki, Abuja, has confessed to the brutal murder of a school nurse and including a14-month-old child.
The crime wad committed after a ransom of ₦3 million was received from the victims families under false pretenses.
David Moses, the security guard in question, revealed during police interrogation that he conspired with an accomplice, Sunday Irimiya, to kidnap the victims for ransom.
“Initially we were demanding ₦250 million, they settled for ₦3 million. We collected the money, and that’s when we had an issue. My friend stabbed me with a knife, took the money, and ran away.”
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, upon receiving reports of the missing individuals on July 23, 2025, initiated an investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, stated that , “On July 23, 2025, the FCT Police Command received a distress report concerning the sudden disappearance of Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, a 55-year-old school nurse, and a toddler identified as Nanenter Asher Yese, aged one year and two months.”
Moses detailed how he lured the nurse into a trap under the guise of checking something in a toilet, where Sunday was hiding.
He said, “I went to call her from her class, while Sunday was hiding in the toilet. When I called her, I told her I wanted to show her something near the front toilet where Sunday was hiding.” Sunday then strangled her with a rope. The child was later killed due to pressure from Sunday
The police have arrested the school principal, two other security guards, and the Chief Security Officer of the private security company that deployed Moses. Zachariah Fiyinfoluwa, a representative of the security company, admitted to lapses in their vetting process, stating, “For us not to keep the record, I accept that it is our fault.”
The FCT Police Command has intensified effort to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, Sunday Irimiya. Commissioner Adewale emphasized the need for schools to properly vet security personnel in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.
He assured the public, “We understand that no words can capture the pain of this tragedy, but we stand with you in your grief and are resolute in ensuring that justice is done.”
