Senator Shehu Sani, a renowned civil rights activist and politician, has made a passionate plea to Nigerians and the government to recognize and honor the country’s freedom fighters. Sani’s call to action came during his visit to the tombs of six deposed Emirs in Lokoja, who bravely resisted British colonial rule .
Sani emphasized the importance of appreciating these unsung heroes, saying, “We have to appreciate the freedom fighters, those who stood in defence of our country… We owe them a lot.” He also commended the Emirs for refusing to bow down to colonialists, stating that their bravery and leadership are qualities to be emulated .
The Etsu Lokoja, Emmanuel Akamisoko Dauda-Shelika, and other community leaders praised Sani’s visit, describing it as a “welcome development.” They acknowledged the significance of remembering and honoring the contributions of Nigeria’s freedom fighters.
Sani’s noted that his visit and call to action serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving Nigeria’s history and honoring its heroes. As the country moves forward, it is essential to look back and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who fought for its freedom and independence.
