Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the immediate activation of the Fusion and Trigger Room concept to strengthen coordination and ensure early response to flooding as the rainy season intensifies across Nigeria.
The directive was issued on Thursday during a meeting of the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the Vice President also instructed the task force, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant agencies to review and update their budgets in line with approved allocations and set clear implementation priorities.
Shettima, who chairs the AATF, said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to shifting the country’s disaster management approach from emergency response to proactive preparedness.
He stressed that climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and severe, making it imperative for government institutions to anticipate risks rather than react after lives and property have been affected.
“We are called to act early, to reduce losses before they multiply, and to protect vulnerable communities before crises unfold around them,” the Vice President said.
He added that “preparedness, coordination, and early action must become the standard practice of how risk is governed in the country.”
The Vice President noted that the activation of the Fusion and Trigger Room is expected to improve coordination among relevant agencies and support timely interventions aimed at reducing the impact of floods on vulnerable communities during the peak of the rainy season.
