The Federal Government is once again on the clock as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) issued a fresh 14-day ultimatum to resolve long-standing disputes.
In a statement released on Wednesday, ASUU, led by its President, Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed deep frustration over the government’s perceived unwillingness to address their concerns, despite previous deadlines.
According to ASUU, the union had already given a 21-day grace period, but with little to no progress made, they are left with no choice but to extend the deadline. The statement warned that failure to address the union’s demands could result in widespread disruptions across Nigeria’s universities.
The statement read: “In view of the foregoing, ASUU resolves to give the Nigerian Government another 14 days, in addition to the earlier 21 days, beginning from Monday, September 23, 2024, during which all the lingering issues must have been concretely addressed to the satisfaction of the membership of the union.
“The union should not be held responsible for any industrial disharmony that arises from the government’s failure to seize the new opportunity offered by ASUU to nip the looming crisis in the bud.”
