Throughout one’s life, influential figures shape our perspectives, whether positively or negatively. Notably, numerous prominent individuals, past and present, have had a profound impact on my life.
Alhaji Dr. Mahmud Yayale Ahmed CFR, a distinguished former Director of Business and Citizenship and Head of Service of the Federation, is one such influential figure. My time residing with him at 17 Aso Drive instilled in me the values of humility, compassion, and simplicity.
Yayale’s household was a melting pot of diverse individuals, where cooks and stewards from various backgrounds, including minority Christians and prison service officers, worked together. His residence was akin to a university, where one could learn valuable life lessons. Yayale’s philanthropic nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life were truly inspiring.
Similarly, my association with Lateef Kayode Jakande, D.Litt., taught me the importance of legacy and selfless service. Whenever Baba Jacko visited Abuja, we would assist individuals in need, and his residence in Lagos was always open to those seeking help.
These two remarkable individuals exemplified integrity, compassion, and a commitment to humanity. May Yayale Ahmed be blessed with good health, longevity, and prosperity, and may LKJ rest in eternal peace.
As Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister aptly put it, “let us do good for posterity’s sake”; true fulfillment lies not in material wealth but in positively impacting lives. Let us strive to embody goodness and kindness, for life is fleeting.
