President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, is expected to bring his expertise in digital systems, examination administration and institutional reforms to the examination body.
The presidency described the incoming registrar as a technology and systems expert with over 15 years of experience spanning public-sector reform, examination systems and digital infrastructure development.
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The statement noted that Aina began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service and later built a career around examination reform, digital transition and institutional optimisation.
At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has previously worked with examination bodies including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process improvement.
Aina is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s administration and further strengthen the operations of the examination board.
