President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, on his unanimous election as Chairperson of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

Kyari emerged as head of the 49th Governing Council of IFAD on Tuesday, taking charge of the international body’s supreme decision-making authority.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the election as a vote of confidence in the minister’s leadership capacity and the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s agriculture and food security value chain.

“The election of the Agriculture and Food Security Minister is a confidence vote in his capacity and the reforms he spearheads in Nigeria’s agriculture and food security value chain,” the President said.

Tinubu expressed optimism that Kyari would provide effective leadership for IFAD, particularly at a time of global food security challenges.

“I have confidence that Senator Kyari will give IFAD the right leadership and deepen its relevance and impact, especially at a time of global food security crises,” he added.

The President wished the minister a successful and impactful tenure as he assumes the new role.
