President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the Nigerian Senate for its swift confirmation of General Christopher G. Musa (retd.) as the new Minister of Defence.

In a statement on Wednesday, the President expressed appreciation for the Senate’s prompt action, noting that the confirmation came just a day after he forwarded Musa’s name for consideration.

“Two days ago, I transmitted the name of General Christopher G. Musa, our immediate past Chief of Defence Staff and a fine gentleman, to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as the Federal Minister of Defence,” Tinubu wrote.

“I want to commend the Nigerian Senate for its expedited confirmation of General Musa yesterday. His appointment comes at a critical juncture in our lives as a Nation.”

Tinubu had, on Tuesday, nominated the former Chief of Defence Staff to succeed Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned on Monday.

In the letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and released by the President’s Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed confidence in Musa’s capacity to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and provide the leadership required to steer the Defence Ministry.

The Senate confirmed Musa’s appointment on Wednesday after a rigorous five-hour screening session, officially ushering him in as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
